Dina Nayeri is an award-winning writer whose books on the refugee experience (particularly The Ungrateful Refugee) are taught in schools across Europe and the US. They've been used by many theatre directors as research for plays on displacement. Her 2023 nonfiction book Who Gets Believed? was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle award in the US. Her 2019 nonfiction book The Ungrateful Refugee, was a finalist for the Kirkus Prize, Los Angeles Times Book Prize and won Germany's prestigious Geschwister Scholl Preis. Her short stories have been published in Best American Short Stories, O. Henry Prize Stories, The New York Times Decameron Project and many other publications.The Guardian recently called Dina "a master storyteller of the refugee experience." Dina's first play was shortlisted for the Paines Plough Women's prize. She has also written short pieces about refugees for The Old Vic and the English Touring Theatre. She is a Reader at the University of St Andrews.
