Sweden
Lisa Langseth (b.1975) graduated from Stockholm University of the Arts in 2002 and in 2004, her play Beloved opened at the Royal Dramatic Theatre with Noomi Rapace in the starring role and with Langseth herself as director. In 2010 she developed Beloved into a feature film titled Pure, which went on to win the prestigious Guldbagge Award for Best Screenplay, the Flash Forward Award at the Pusan International Film Festival, the Recommendation of the Jury of Cinema Owners at the Mannheim-Heidelberg International Film Festival, and the Youth Jury Award for Best Film at the Ghent International Film Festival. Since then, Langseth has established herself as a playwright, a scriptwriter, and a director for both stage and screen. Langseth’s plays, which are characterized by their witty dialogue and their complex portrayals of women as well as by a fascination with language and the pitfalls of communication, have been produced at some of Sweden’s foremost theatres. In 2017 Langseth made her English-language debut with the film Euphoria and in 2020 Langseth’s television series Love & Anarchy premiered on Netflix.
