Nielsen is one of Denmark’s leading playwrights and novelists. As a playwright he has been awarded the prestigious Reumert Prize for best Danish Playwright of the year, and as a novelist he has been nominated for the Nordic Literature Prize. During the last fifteen years Nielsen has produced a large number of plays and performances, many of which he himself has directed. Several of the performances have toured all over Europe. Nielsen is a true Gesamtwerk artist crossing all possible borders between art forms and genres; major venues such as Kampnagel in Hamburg and Wiener Festwochen in Vienna has shown Gesamtwerk shows presenting Nielsen's work as a playwright, novelist, stage director, performer, musician, video artist and aesthetical political activist discussing the situations in Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Cairo, the US etc. Among Nielsen's most important plays are “The Last Song”, “Swingers” and the world political trilogy “Ci-vi-li-za-tion”, “The Parliament” and “The European Media”. In the various phases of his work, Nielsen has produced under different names, including Claus Beck-Nielsen and Das Beckwerk. However, since January 2012 all works of his have been gathered under the name of Nielsen.
