Jon Atli Jonasson was born In Reykjavik, Iceland, in 1972. He dropped out of high school and began working as a fisherman, pizza-baker, heavy metal DJ and road constructor. In 2001 he made his debut with A Broken Beat,  a collection of short stories. Jonasson was resident at the Royal Court Theatres International Residency in 2003, and in 2004 he was voted Best Icelandic Playwright. His plays have international appeal.
