Nicholas and his sister Clara are neglected children. Their parents are pre-occupied with their own problems. There is no room for attention, fun, love or even conversation. Then, one day, Nicholas discovers a secret world in the wardrobe. Here, parents go to school, and children earn the money. In this role reversal, the parents find themselves at the mercy of their children and are reminded of how suffocating a child’s powerlessness can be. But the children also learn a thing or two about the life of an adult, and that with freedom comes responsibility. Being a grown-up is not all that it’s cracked up to be.
